McCullough Archaeological Services offers full-service consulting, ranging from historical and archaeological records checks through all phases of archaeological excavations to archaeological geophysical investigations. Dr. Robert McCullough, as manager and principal investigator, brings more than 34 years’ experience in Midwestern archaeology to your project and can direct archaeological investigations in Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana.

  • Federal and state archaeological permitting. As a former section 106 reviewer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, Dr. McCullough brings a wealth of experience in navigating through the complicated archaeological review process to your project. 
  • All section 106 compliance work and professional reporting.  Dr. McCullough has directed and served as Principal Investigator for hundreds of archaeological investigations, including initial records reviews, Phase Ia archaeological surveys of all sizes, Phase II testing of sites, and complex Phase III data recovery and mitigation projects, as well as cemetery identification and removal.
  • Geophysical investigations.  As an instructor for three years in a National Science Foundation–sponsored program of training for undergraduates in archaeological geophysical techniques, Dr. McCullough is uniquely qualified in the use of geophysical instrumentation in archaeological investigations. Such methods as ground-penetrating radar and magnetometry can provide efficient and economical site information prior to ground-disturbing testing.
  • Experienced staffing.  All personnel with McCullough Archaeological Services meet federal and state requirements and have years of experience with all phases of archaeological work. Additional experienced archaeological technicians throughout the state are available as needed for larger projects. 
  • Fast turn-around and individual attention. With decades of experience in meeting the needs of clients ranging from construction companies through county parks systems to federal and state agencies such as the Indiana State Museum, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and INDOT, McCullough Archaeological Services offers timely, efficient, and professional investigations for the variety of circumstances that may be encountered in the field.
